Oggi si fa un gran parlare di cerchi a canale largo tubeless e di pressioni di esercizio incredibilmente basse… beh, Spacebikes produce (non ordina) dal 2018 cerchi ROAD con canale interno da 22 mm con tecnologia Hookless asimmetrici e, dal 2023, anche con canale interno da 25 mm.
Abbiamo prodotto 8 stampi per 6 altezze differenti: 31 mm, 41 mm, 54 mm, 64 mm con canale interno da 22 mm e 28 mm, 41 mm, 48 mm, 54 mm con canale interno da 25 mm, ed anche se oggi tutta la nostra gamma ruote road è improntata su quest’ultima sezione, diamo comunque la possibilità di richiederci, su ordinazione, anche la “vecchia” sezione da 22 mm.
Per loro, il nostro solito iter: lasciare ai test sul campo quello che nessun test al computer può darti… e quindi, dai progetti, si è passati a diversi tipi di laminatura, stampaggio e finitura per ottenere il miglior prodotto possibile. Il livello qualitativo raggiunto è ciò che ci siamo posti come punto di arrivo e che caratterizza la nostra storia da sempre, e cioè qualità, affidabilità e il massimo della performance possibile.
– PERCHE’ 25MM INTERNO? La domanda non e’ perche’ 25mm interno ma perche’ hookless e 25mm interno! Queste due caratteristiche sono inscindibili in quanto il primo permette di non ‘strozzare’ la gomma permettendo alla carcassa di lavorare molto di piu’ aumentando il confort e diminuendo la deformazione in appoggio, il tutto permesso dal secondo che crea un volume d’aria molto superiore rispetto ai classici cerchi tradizionali.
– PERCHE’ 3MM DI DENTE DI TENUTA? Quasi tutti utilizzano un dente da 2,5mm ,che sarebbe sufficiente a livello strutturale per garantire affidabilita’ al cerchio stesso, ma abbiamo preferito aumentarne le dimensioni del 20% per aumentare la rigidita’ torsionale di tutto l’insieme ruota…Affidabilita’ e performance il nostro credo.
– PERCHE’ ASIMMETRICO? Semplice per portare la ruota ad avere il miglior equilibrio di tensioni con la raggiatura da ambo i lati, che tradotto significa meno stress dell’insieme ruota , piu’ durata e migliore feeling nell’utilizzo della stessa.
– LA SCORREVOLEZZ DIMINUISCE? Assolutamente no , e’ esattamente il contrario perche’ l’area di impronta a terra si sviluppa maggiormente in larghezza e non in lunghezza dove diminusce , generando quindi una maggior tenuta in curva , un confort imparagonabile e appunto una scorrevolezza maggiore .
– PERCHÉ CONSIGLIAMO UNA MISURA MINIMA DI COPERTONE IN BASE ALLA LARGHEZZA DEL CERCHIO? Perche’ quando abbiamo sviluppato questo profilo abbiamo cercato di creare un cerchio che in abbinamento a questa sezione generasse la miglior penetrazione aerodinamica possibile…tradotto piu’ velocita’ con meno watt. Un tubeless da 28mm sui nostri cerchi wide misura 31mm di larghezza che e’ proprio la misura esterna del nostro cerchio!

Today there is a lot of talk about tubeless wide-channel rims and incredibly low operating pressures…well , Spacebikes manufactures (not orders) since 2018 ROAD rims with 22mm inner channel with hookless asymmetric technology and now also with 25mm inner channel. Why 25mm inner? The question is not why 25mm inner but why hookless and 25mm inner! These two features are inseparable in that the former allows the tire not to ‘choke’ allowing the casing to work much harder by increasing comfort and decreasing deformation in support, all allowed by the latter which creates a much greater volume of air than classic traditional rims. Why 3mm tooth seal? Almost everyone uses a 2.5mm tooth ,which would be sufficient structurally to ensure reliability of the rim itself, but we preferred to increase its size by 20% to increase the torsional stiffness of the whole wheel assembly…Reliability and performance our credo. Why asymmetrical? Simple to bring the wheel to have the best balance of tensions with the spoking on both sides, which translated means less stress of the wheel assembly , more durability and better feeling when using it. Does the smoothness not decrease? Absolutely not , it’s exactly the opposite because the footprint area on the ground develops more in width and not in length where it decreases , thus generating a greater grip in corners , an incomparable comfort and precisely a greater smoothness.
Why do we recommend a minimum tire size based on the width of the rim? Because when we developed this profile we tried to create a rim that in conjunction with this section generated the best aerodynamic penetration possible…translated more speed with less watts.

A 28mm tubeless on our wide rims measures 31mm wide, which is just the outer measurement of our rim! We made 7 molds for 5 different heights , for different needs, for different bikers and for different utlization: 28mm wide , 31mm , 41mm , 41mm wide ,54mm , 54mm wide and 64mm! The WS64 with a 22mm inner channel allows , combined with a 25mm tire , to have the lowest aerodynamic incidence index making it very fast on flat trails while the WS28 wide with a 25mm inner channel , combined with a 28mm tire to make the lightest possible wheel-tire combination to be faster in climbing the long climbs for which it was designed. The WS41 and WS54 are the ultimate expression of multi-purpose, and for them the wide version is what makes them the most stable, fast, comfortable, and quickest paired with 28mm covers on mixed trails. For those who are reluctant to mount a 28mm cover can still choose the version with 22mm internal channel that has been a reference in our catalog for years.
For them our usual process, leaving to field tests what no computer test can give you … and then from the projects we went to different types of lamination, molding and finishing to get the best possible product. The level of quality achieved is what we have set as our goal and what has always characterized our history and that is quality , reliability and the highest possible performance.
